  • School Science Institute for District Leaders
    Wednesday and Thursday, June 25 and 26, 2008

    This program provides two full days of high quality professional leadership development during Summer 2008. The institute also offers four evening meetings (5:00 - 8:00 p.m.) at the NWO Inquiry Series (September 20, December 11, February 19, April 18). Each session will focus on standards-based best practices to develop school science leadership for district success on the Ohio Achievement Tests and BEYOND!

    The School Science Institute is for district leaders (principals, curriculum directors, science specialists, superintendents) working directly with 3rd - 6th grade NWO TEAMS teachers (Cohorts I, II, or III 2005-2008) and also district leaders interested in developing awareness of, support for, and involvement in school science.

  • Project pi r2 (Partners in Inquiry Resources and Research) (pdf)
    This program will provide 120 hours of inquiry science and science content professional development for K-8 teachers.

    Pi r2 begins September 20, 2008 and includes 8 academic year sessions (08-09), technology integration workshops, a five-day summer workshop in Summer 09 and a number of school-day outreach programs for your classroom from places like The Toledo Zoo, Toledo Area Metroparks and COSI Toledo. Scientists will team with our educational facilitators to help teachers dispel common science misconceptions and provide new insight on how to tackle the standards that students struggle with most often.
    Their is no-cost to teachers for this program which will offer a $1000 stipend for participants, as well as, optional graduate credit (for an additional cost).

  • NWO TEAMS: Science Instruction for All
    Cohort III 8-day Summer Institute ~ June 23-July 2, 2008 (Mon.-Fri. & Mon.-Wed.)
    NWO TEAMS is a science professional development opportunity for grades 3-6 teachers including special education and inclusion specialists. NWO TEAMS focuses on deep content knowledge and differentiated instruction in science and features an $1,000 stipend, classroom materials, and graduate credit scholarships. NWO TEAMS has summer and academic year components.

  • DREAMS: Developing Regional Excellence for Achievement in Math & Science Education
    4-day STEM Leadership Academy I ~ June 17-20, 2008 (Tue.-Fri.)
    DREAMS is a K-12 math and science program focusing on deep content knowledge and leadership skills through one of the following three methods: a Specialist Endorsement in mathematics or science OR an MAT (Master of Arts in Teaching) in interdisciplinary mathematics and science OR an MAT in mathematics, physics, or biology.

  • RIPE II: Research-based Inquiry Physics Experiences II
    8-day Summer Institute ~ July 28-August 7, 2008
    The goal of the RIPE program is to give early childhood teachers (pK-3rd grade) tools to increase student learning and excitement about science through implementing research-based inquiry instruction in their classrooms. The RIPE program will provide professional development including teaching science using inquiry, the physics content in the early childhood state standards, and implementing science units developed by the program. Each teacher will receive a mini-kit worth about $600 containing equipment necessary to teach the units presented in the summer workshop.
