Learning Sciences PhD Program

Bowling Green State University (BGSU) proposes the creation of an interdisciplinary PhD program in the Learning Sciences (LSC). The ultimate goal of this program is to produce scholars who create knowledge about the science of learning in post-secondary educational settings, in particular the mathematics and science disciplines.  This interdisciplinary program brings together scholars in the College of Arts and Sciences with scholars in the College of Education and Human Development.  Our graduates will be well suited for learning sciences research positions in mathematics and natural science departments in the College of Arts and Sciences, other interdisciplinary programs in the learning sciences, government positions such as NASA or NSF, or related positions at private foundations.

Master of Arts in Teaching

The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree is for individuals planning to continue a teaching career, who desire to pursue course work in a discipline in order to improve teaching proficiency, and who want to update their knowledge and proficiency in the use of research as it relates to their teaching areas. The program is available only to individuals who hold a valid teaching certificate.   MAT degree candidates may major in the following mathematics and science fields: Biological Sciences, Interdisciplinary Specialization within the Biology MAT, Mathematics, and Physics.

Tuition Scholarships for these programs are available for those participating in the DREAMS program and also through the Mathematics Department.

NWO Executive Board

The NWO Executive Board is the official governance group for NWO. The Board operates following the policies and procedures documented in the approved NWO Bylaws.

Learning Community

The COSMOS Learning Community meets bi-monthly during the academic year to conduct and communicate collaborative research on how people best teach and learn science and mathematics. The community members, who include higher education faculty, graduate students, and support staff, join together as research action teams focusing on new collaborative projects based on common research interests. Funding for this activity comes from the BGSU Center for Teaching and Learning.
