COSMOS Collaborative Council

K-12 Administrators and local school educators, Higher Education Faculty, and COSMOS Staff meet monthly to communicate needs, share opportunities and research, and determine mutual goals, objectives and strategies to advance Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics education for people of all ages.  The Council meets from 3:00-4:30 the first Wednesday of each month in room 246 Math Science Building, Bowling Green State University. Dates for 2008-08 coming soon!

Learning Sciences PhD Program

Bowling Green State University (BGSU) proposes the creation of an interdisciplinary PhD program in the Learning Sciences (LSC). The ultimate goal of this program is to produce scholars who create knowledge about the science of learning in post-secondary educational settings, in particular the mathematics and science disciplines.  This interdisciplinary program brings together scholars in the College of Arts and Sciences with scholars in the College of Education and Human Development.  Our graduates will be well suited for learning sciences research positions in mathematics and natural science departments in the College of Arts and Sciences, other interdisciplinary programs in the learning sciences, government positions such as NASA or NSF, or related positions at private foundations.

Master of Arts in Teaching

The Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) degree is for individuals planning to continue a teaching career, who desire to pursue course work in a discipline in order to improve teaching proficiency, and who want to update their knowledge and proficiency in the use of research as it relates to their teaching areas. The program is available only to individuals who hold a valid teaching certificate.   M.A.T. degree candidates may major in the following mathematics and science fields: Biological Sciences, Mathematics, and Physics.  An Interdisciplinary M.A.T. program for teachers of grades 4-10 is in development.

Tuition Scholarships for these programs are available for those participating in the  COSMOS DREAMS program and also through the Mathematics Department.

NWO Executive Board

The NWO Executive Board is the official governance group for NWO. The Board operates following the policies and procedures documented in the approved NWO By-laws.

Research Community

The COSMOS Research Community meets bi-monthly to conduct and communicate collaborative research on how people best teach and learn science and mathematics. The community members, who include higher education faculty, graduate students, and support staff, join together as research action teams focusing on new collaborative projects based on common research interests.  Nearly half of the funding needed for this activity comes from the BGSU Center for Teaching and Learning.
